Basic networking troubleshooting commands

From the command prompt:

ipconfig( ifconfig in unix systems) command: tells you some basic information about your computer’s network card’s configuration.(your device IP addres,gateway,...)
-Ping command: check the connectivity to a destintion .
-tracert  (traceroute in unix systems) command: shows the path your data take to reach the destination.

From  the internet explorer "tools" menu"
check the proxy settings:
Tools>>Internet Options >> Connections >>LAN Settings
